Kate McDaniel

Kate McDaniel is a classically trained singer and voice teacher. She earned master's degrees in voice performance and voice pedagogy from The Boston Conservatory and Westminster Choir College. Early in her musical studies, Kate’s vocal range and flexibly led her instructors to categorize her as a coloratura soprano. Kate has since studied both soprano and mezzo-soprano repertoire, as she is skilled at singing both. 

Kate’s performance experience includes work as a professional soloist in addition to leading roles in operas, musicals, and plays. She sings in a variety of styles, most notably opera/classical voice and musical theater. Some of Kate’s favorite roles include L'enfant in Ravel's "L'enfant et les sortilèges," Mabel in "The Pirates of Penzance," Abby Brewster in Joseph Kesselring’s play “Arsenic and Old Lace,” Dinah in Leonard Bernstein’s “Trouble in Tahiti,” and the title role in Seymour Barab's "Little Red Riding Hood." 

Choral singing has given Kate the opportunity to work with various internationally esteemed artists. She has performed under the direction of musicians such as Jane Glover conducting The New York Philharmonic, Yannick Nézet-Séguin conducting The Philadelphia Orchestra, and Sir Simon Rattle conducting The Berliner Philharmoniker in a sold-out performance at Carnegie Hall. Kate has also traveled to the Czech Republic to sing in a concert with the Czech National Symphony in Smetana Hall. Most recently, she sang backup vocals for Josh Groban when he visited Wilmington, NC as part of his Harmony tour. Kate is also an inaugural member of Wilmington Voices, a professional vocal ensemble formed in 2022.

In addition to performing, Kate works as a private voice teacher. She loves helping others to improve their vocal technique and to become more confident in their singing. More details about Kate’s voice studio may be found under the lessons tab of this website.
